PIB Finland

Finland

Finland is rapidly expanding its offshore wind energy capacity as part of its broader renewable energy strategy. The country aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035, and offshore wind energy is set to play a crucial role in meeting this goal.

Currently, Finland has one operational offshore wind farm, Tahkoluoto, with a capacity of 42 MW. However, plans are underway to significantly expand this project, potentially adding up to 900 MW through the installation of 45 new turbines. Finland is currently positioning itself as a leader in the hydrogen economy and aims at supplying 10% of EU’s green hydrogen needs. As a key component for that renewable fuel, Finland has set out to generate until 35 GW of offshorewind capacity until 2050.

LinkedbyOffshoreWind

The PIB project LinkedbyOffshoreWind Finland has started in September 2024 with a cluster of Dutch offshore wind companies and technology experts that are sharing knowledge with their counterparts Finland. We have commissioned reports to bring the Dutch sector up to speed with what happens in this country.

By actively collaborating with local partners, the LinkedbyOffshoreWind partners focus on teamwork, collaboration, and innovation. Together, we can prove that offshore wind is a powerful and cost-effective solution to achieve climate goals while effectively contributing to economic opportunities through renewable energy and ensuring energy security for the region.

Ultimately, this leads to high certainty for project developers, increased investor confidence, and lower overall costs. With Finland’s energy ambitions aligning with those of the Netherlands, together we can contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable planet and make Wind and Water Work.

Our vision

The Netherlands is strongly committed to achieving international climate agreements, but we know we can’t do it alone. International collaboration and strong partnerships are key in moving to a more sustainable future. Offshore wind energy is one of the many prospects within our reach. Not only does it contribute massively to the energy transition, it also offers promising economic growth and employment opportunities. Let’s work together to advance offshore wind

Partners for International Business

PIB Linked by Offshore Wind is a public-private partnership and part of the programme ‘Partners for International Business’. The partnership includes the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, which is a government agency with access to a global network of embassies, such as the Netherlands embassy in Finland. Together with our Finnish partners, we aim to develop offshore wind solutions for both Finland and the Netherlands.
